Hi! I'm Harry Chalmers, and I'm a philosopher with interests in ethics, broadly construed.

After receiving my Ph.D. (Brown), I taught philosophy at both the college and high school level for a few years. In 2024, I decided to shift away from working in traditional educational institutions in favor of the brave new world of online content creation as an independent philosopher. I'll be using this blog to share my work with any who are interested, philosophers and non-philosophers alike.

If you come across any posts here that you'd like to engage with—whether by agreeing with, asking questions about, or arguing against—please feel free to leave a comment. I always welcome the chance for dialogue.

Another project I’ve recently taken on is my VTuber channel, where I make philosophy videos as Axaeon. Feel free to stop by sometime and say hello in the comments/chat!

A note on tips and paid content

Many Substackers use occasional paid content, together with monthly and yearly subscriptions, to support their work. While I understand the choice to make certain posts for paying subscribers only, I'd like to keep all my posts free for anyone to read. Originally, my plan was to have a model of all-free content combined with the option of becoming—for those who nevertheless wish to financially support the blog in some form—a $1-a-year paid subscriber. Alas, the minimum yearly charge that Substack's own subscription system allows writers to set is $50, which is higher than I'd feel comfortable charging or suggesting.

I've decided, then, at least for now, to keep all my posts free while opting for a more flexible, third-party processor for optional payments. If at any point you'd like to support my work through small, one-off donations or tips, you can do so by checking out my Ko-fi page. (I'll occasionally link this page at the end of posts so that any readers interested in tipping can easily do so without having to worry about a monthly or yearly subscription.)

While any tipping is of course appreciated, there's no pressure to do so. Simply any time you choose to spend reading and thinking about my writing is, to me, by far the most meaningful support you could offer.
